Welcome to the second quarter of my life. It’s been a great 1st quarter, but the time has come to start growing up.
The way I see it, you can define the first quarter of your life like this:
- Be born
- Do that whole infant thing
- Crawl, walk, talk, potty train
- Start elementary school, learn, read, write, socialize
- Awkwardly enter middle school and endure for three smelly, weird, frustrating formative years
- High school. Identity crisis, love, rebellion, more socializing, study, practice, graduate.
- Redefine self in college (party, fall in love, do a lot of stupid stuff, drama, choose life path, party, study, graduate).
- Get a job
- Date, date, date
- Fall in love
- Think about a career
- Don’t take life TOO seriously…
So when that magical age of 25 hits, what is a girl to do? It seems like that first quarter had a lot of amazing life changing awesomeness going on…what could I POSSIBLY have to look forward to between the ages of 25 and 50?! Well I’m here to find out.
I’m a 28-year-old-soon-to-be-29-year-old wondering what the hell I’m doing with my life (yes, I started this blog in 2010 and I’m still wondering). From the outside I seem to have it all together. I have a job that I love, I’m married to my BFF (cue the awwwws), a mortgage, two insane cats, and super supportive and loving family and friends. I’ve traveled solo around Europe, tramped through Scandinavia, and lived in Australia. I graduated from a great university and managed to come through debt free. I’m getting my Master’s degree. I run, I eat right, and I generally love life. So what gives?! Why am I completely traumatized by the idea of entering the second quarter of my life?
Me: 2nd Quarter (major 2nd Quarter benefit…wine).
Your guess is as good as mine, but I’m thinking that it has something to do with the fact that the Second Quarter brings:
- Marriage (check! 10.29.11)
- Losing independence
- A slow metabolism
- Gray hairs
Yikes. That list doesn’t seem nearly as fun at the first quarter.
So since I wasn’t capable (and didn’t have the foresight) to blog when I was an infant, I’ve decided to jump on the blog boat now and take you through the ins and outs of a real quarter life crisis. While I wish I could have shared my college escapades with you as they occurred (God bless college), you’ll have to settle for what is sure to be a slightly “tamer” version of myself…my Second Quarter.
I’m determined to “upgrade” to Carrie 2.0 – a healthier, happier version of my 1st quarter self. This blog will document my running journey, my attempts at eating and cooking like a real adult, and all the gooshy fun stuff inbetween.
So fasten your seatbelts, this second quarter is bound to be a (semi-tame-but-guaranteed-interesting) wild ride.
